“Picture your normal life. You wake up, go to your job or school, hang out with friends, come home, and go to bed. Rinse and repeat. Now, imagine this entire comfortable world torn to pieces by a single event: the Fall. This is the story of the Mists and the change they brought onto the people of planet Earth.”
They came in the dead of night without warning, silent as the dawn. Unassuming in form, the Mists crept upon the Earth’s face, transforming humanity while leaving the rest of the planet untouched. As quickly as they descended, the Mists vanished in the morn, leaving humanity to come to terms with its new, untested existence. Upon waking, those affected by the Mists where both amazed and horrified by their new abilities, the Mists having advanced approximately 2% of the human population to the next stage of evolution, a step that normally would have taken millions of more years to complete. The world instantly fractured as those with abilities fought for their lives against the fearful populace. The various governments around the Earth frantically attempted to regain control of the angered citizens who were unchanged and the dangerous Demi-Humans, calming them down over a period of months, thanks in a large part to the empathic Demi-Humans recruited by the governments.
After some sense of order reappeared, the UN passed the Super Human Enumeration and Abridgement Resolution, requiring all Demi-Humans across the Earth to register with the Demi-Human Registry. The Super Human Enumeration and Abridgement Resolution passed unanimously, and as a result, the Demi-Human Audit Agency was created to enforce the mandates of the resolution: namely, to investigate claims of illegal Demi-Human activity and non-registered individuals, and to bring to justice any Demi-Human who utilizes their powers without government approval. Over the next ten years, the persecution of Demi-Humans lost its outright malice and devolved into a basic racism as Demi-Humans fought to be accepted into society despite their second-class status. Now, ten years later, Demis are either continuing to carry on with their lives as though the Mists never descended, keeping their abilities hidden from their governments, or exposing themselves to the entire world for who they have become.
However, this is not a story of the UN, humanity, or the Agency. This is not a story of worldwide tragedy or the tale of a city in ruin. What is documented here is the tale of students in college during this time in human history. Parties, classes, friends, frenemies, and bouts of love and lust all packaged with super-powers. The Demi-Human students of William B. Travis University in Atascocita, Texas know these problems all too well, even as they attempt to be themselves away from the prying eyes of their judgmental peers.
That’s you: a Demi-Human attending WBTU and attempting to deal with the racism surrounding your abilities, or the consequences of not revealing your abilities to the authorities. You and your fellows have started a club for students concerned about the issues of Demi-Humanity; however, the Demi-Human Awareness Association is only a front for your real activities of escaping the world of the “normies” and banding together with other Demis in secret, sharing your abilities and your troubles. Now then, who are you?
