In the world of Tarma, there exists a continent known as Elemere that is home to a diverse array of species and cultures. Elves, gnomes, orcs, and dwarves are the primary races of Elemere.
Elemere's political system is complex, with many different traditions and customs among each individual kingdom and society. Though far from unheard of, war is not common in Elemere- most kingdoms prefer subtle and quiet methods over all-out battle. The common folk of the lands greatly resent any overly combative ruler, though uprisings tend to end quickly and with little success on their side.
Most kingdoms maintain officially neutral/friendly terms with one another, though any two ruling families likely have deep-seated animosity with one another from some point in the past. Marriages between ruling families are the norm, and at times are the only thing preventing kingdoms from open warfare.
In a land of which magic is abundant, belief in divinity from greater powers never really took root in Elemere. From the stubborn dwarves to the calculative gnomes, the inhabitants of this continent are by and large a practical people. Even in the less-civilized orcish lands, one would be hard-pressed to find more cults then merchant guilds. That being said, four special individuals grace this land.
‘The Four Beings’ is the name titled to the four reincarnations of famous individuals since the beginning of written history. They hold no particular special powers, yet their fame is awarded to their identical looks and personality of their predecessor. When a Being passes away, his or her spirit is reborn in a newborn of their race.
They are:
Hylga, gnome, known for her tricks and theatrics
Sargaan, orc, known for his discipline and martial prowess
Lenwan, elf, known for her beauty and scholarly focus
Brollo, dwarf, known for his rough housing and merriness.
Noteworthy Kingdoms and their ruling families:
Kingdom of Fredundria- Ruled by the sand elf Lord Beren Sunborn at the capitol of Forniza, bordering the orc-controlled lands. It is a diverse kingdom, with elves forming the plurality. The people of this kingdom mostly rely on fishing and trade for work, and possess some arable farmland. It is isolated by a large sea from the rest of the continent. Elves 40%, Orcs 25%, Gnomes 20%, Dwarves 15%
Kingdom of Vordath- Ruled by the gnome Prince Lodor Fourhands at the capitol of Jonsport. Well-known as a fertile and temperate land, Vordath is a wealthy exporter of many goods. Gnomes 60%, Dwarves 25%, Elves 15%.
Kingdom of Pendria- Ruled by the anchor dwarf Queen Sherro at the capitol city Prantem. Pendria is a rocky peninsula land that is populated almost exclusively by dwarves due to its unappealing aesthetic. Its forests cover most of the land making farming difficult, and what isn't engulfed in trees is resting in the land's many hills. Though farming is difficult in Pendria, its geography makes it naturally defensible. 96% Dwarf, 4% other, mostly gnome.
The Zorsk Alliance- Lead by the orc chieftainess Brella and the elf Norin, the Zorsk Alliance is a joint kingdom of orcs and elves in the Gorshani desert and mountains on the edge of Fredundria's borders. These peoples are natural hunters and gatherers, but possess skill at raising their crops in the harsh environments. 70% Orcs, 30% Elves.
Kingdom of Formoria Ruled by the Formar royal family of glimmer dwarves, mostly its patriarch Helger. Formoria stretches across the northern mountain lands and ends in unexplored frozen wastes. It exports minerals and precious gems, and imports foods it cannot grow. Its mountains keep it somewhat separated from the main lands. Inhabitants: Dwarves 50%, Gnomes 25%, Elves 25%.
Fereth- Not officially a kingdom, Fereth is a collection of towns, small cities, and villages that work together for the purpose of protecting themselves. Though technically lead by a council of representatives from each major settlement, the elven Lady Nycella holds the most wealth and armed militia. Fereth is almost exclusively elven, with about 10% of it's population being migrant gnomes.
