Background: The planes are new worlds, alternate realities, and other realms of existence which may exist just next door. These are places where rules and comforting assumptions can be taken for granted and no longer apply, for the safety of hearth and home are far away indeed. The planes can also be the homes of powerful entities, both malevolent and benign. Centered between the planes lays the metropolis of Sigil, the City of Doors, which acts as an axle around which the multiverse spins. Ruled by the enigmatic Lady of Pain, Sigil is a gathering place for planar travelers and savvy adventurers.
It has been over five hundred years since the death of Amoth, god of justice and mercy. His followers have since waned in number and mourned his passing, theocracies and temples have fallen, their power crumbling away; although the effects of his death have rippled throughout all of reality, the cause and location of his death remain a mystery. What remains of his followers exist in either a cult-like fashion or theocracies which have kept his death a secret from their citizens.
The Party: Luxury Salvage Consultants is a group of adventurers with a reputation for being able to relieve individuals, museums, libraries, kingdoms, and treasuries of rare valuables. Specializing in hunting down objects for the rich and powerful, they are headquartered at The Four Winds, a tavern which exists entirely on its own plane and connects via a gate spell to a back alley door off of Blackboot Walk in the Marble District of Sigil. Here, the members of Luxury Salvage Consultants can be contacted and found enjoying time with beings of all races and realms.
The Scenario: A high priest of the dead god, Amoth, has requested a meeting with Luxury Salvage Consultants in order to beseech them for help. As the head of a defunct theocracy which has survived by lying to its citizens and keeping the death of Amoth a secret, the council of Dikaios has long sought to explain Amoth's death (if only to understand it), but has long been unable. Recently, their farce has begun to lose its intended effect and the citizens of Dikaios are beginning to suspect something is amiss. What the council wants from the members of Luxury Salvage Consultants is a mystery.
