Bats are mysterious creatures that, for reasons unknown to most people, frighten us deeply. Maybe it’s the fact that they linger in the dark or maybe because they travel in large groups that don’t seem like they can be over come by a single man. But the criminals of Gotham City know exactly why they fear bats. They fear bats because of the man who represents them. The darkest man one will ever meet; a symbol to crime that their days are numbered in HIS city. He stalks the night and fights for good, even if the law isn’t always on his side. The Batman is Gotham’s Dark Knight against the forces that look to destroy it. The only question is….

Will you fight with him or against him?

Will you take on the role of a hero, fighting with the Batman in order to make Gotham City a safe place for our families and friends to live, work and play? Will you take the moniker or the bat upon yourself and fight to restore the justice? Or will you work to take down and destroy that moniker? Choose evil and do whatever you want because you simply flaunt your disrespect for the laws and rules of the city in the authorities face. Have the Bat hunt you and see if you can be the one to take him down? I mean, if you did, you’d be a legend. And legends never die; good or bad.

Welcome to Gotham City, my fellow RPers. This is an RPG based on everyone’s favorite detective Batman. It doesn’t necessarily have an set plot or anything, but it will be set largely in Gotham and feature many of the canon characters as well as ones created by you! It’s simple and easy and Batman is always fun! So here’s some rules!

1. Follow all the rules of the site.
2. If there are two people applying for the same character, I’ll decide who gets it and the other person is welcome to pick someone else.
3. If you don’t know much about a character, you can read up on them on Wikipedia or here: dc.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
4. Don’t annoy me.
5. Make sure you have fun. Yes Batman is a darker hero, but he has his moments as do the people around him.
6. We need Alfred just as much as we need Joker so make sure the non powered characters get a chance.
7. No God moding and the like
8. If you want to play a made up character, I require that you also play a canon. I don’t want a bunch of made up people running all over Gotham while Batman and Robin and Nightwing aren’t even involved.

Real Name: Timothy Jackson Drake (Wayne).
Alias: Robin.
Age: 16.
Appearance: Still a boy but seeming to grow out of his prepubescent stage into young adulthood, Tim stands at five feet; eight inches and is rather on the frail side. His frame is categorized as a gymnast’s body as he seems to be rather small but have quite the significant amount of muscle on his body as well, though even then for a boy his age he could also be seen with an athletic size [it depends on the person]. He has pale skin with a lightly tan undertone that does change in shade according to the season. His face is rectangular shaped with his most distinct feature being his almond shaped sky blue eyes. He has extremely dark brown hair that almost verges on the scale of looking black in color that cut in a cropped hair style. Out of costume, you can find him in attire worn by any teenage boy though he normally prefers a white t-shirt, cargo shorts, and sneakers. His superhero costume follows a black and red color scheme and consists of a long sleeved armored tunic, a long black cape [lined with yellow fabric], black gloves and boots, with a chic “R” emblem on his chest. He carries a yellow tool belt around his waist for easy access to his weaponry and can also be seen with an extendable staff for fighting as well.

Brief History: Biological son of Jack and Janet Drake, young Tim looked up to Batman almost all his entire life. Seeing the crime fighter as greatest hero alive, along with his trusty sidekick Robin, showed him that it was possible to become a hero himself. He soon befriended a young boy about some years older than his age while enrolled in gymnastics. The boy, Dick Grayson, had been one of the coolest acrobats he’d ever seen and he would constantly perform a quadruple somersault that no one in their class could. A few days after seeing him perform it for the first time, Tim turned on his television to see his favorite sidekick Robin do the exact same thing. From then on, he knew exactly who the capped crusader and the boy wonder were. A few months later, his parents were murdered in a freak accident and he was shipped off to an orphanage- only to be adopted by millionaire Bruce Wayne sometime after. The rest is history. Donning the Robin persona two years back, Tim underwent training to fill in the shoes of his adoptive brother. Though, with him being like any normal teenager in his off time, he is having a tough time balancing the two. If only things could be easier.

Special Abilities: Tim is quite the skilled acrobat and martial artist, his athletic abilities prove to be rather helpful for whenever he’s fighting bad guys or jumping from building to building. Surprisingly, he is able to lift more than twice his size through his extensive strength training. He is also pretty intelligent with a near genius-level intellect that he normally puts on show during his time at school. There are times where his smarts are put to the ultimate test and he has to use his great detective or tactician skills, but even if he is in true danger he can think of solutions quick. He’s not as amazing as the most amazing mentor ever, Batman, but he’s just as good!

Real Name: Bruce Wayne
Alias: The Batman
Appearance:

Brief History: Bruce Wayne was born into the wealthiest family in Gotham City. His father, Thomas, was the owner and CEO of Wayne Enterprises. He was known as a kind man and a philanthropist. Along with his wife Martha, he taught Bruce to be a good man and fight for the people who can’t fight for themselves. One night, when Bruce was young, his parents were killed in front of him upon leaving an opera. After his parent’s death, he was raised in their home by their Butler, Alfred Pennyworth. After that, Bruce devoted his life tot eh dream his father had had; protecting Gotham City. He decided to take his fight to the streets and after years of physical and mental training, Bruce Wayne became The Batman; a symbol to crime in Gotham that their days were numbered. Now he uses that symbol to further his father’s goals while he moves Wayne Enterprises forward as the CEO.
Special Abilities:
Master Detective- Batman is world renowned for his abilities to investigate and solve crimes. Many have called him the worlds Greatest Detective.
Peak Human Condition- He has trained himself to have the peak in all physical realms, such as speed, strength, durability, etc.
Master Acrobat- Has trained and become very advanced in gymnastics.
Master Martial Artist- Is proficient and amazingly skilled in numerous styles of martial arts like Judo, Karate, Tae Kwon Do and many others.
Ninja and Weapon Skills- Batman spent years training with the League of Assassins and they taught him the ways of the ninja as well as trained him in the use of many weapons.
Genius Intellect- “Batman is a brilliant, virtually peerless, detective, strategist, scientist, tactician, and commander; he is widely regarded as one of the keenest analytical minds on the planet. Given his lack of superpowers, he often uses cunning and planning to outwit his foes, rather than simply "out-fighting" them.”

Real Name: Jason Todd
Alias: Red Hood.
Appearance
Brief History(keep it basic): Jason Todd entered the story of the Bat by attempting to steal the tires off the Batmobile. Bruce sees potential in the boy and adopts the orphan, eventually giving him the recently vacated role of Robin. His career as Robin, however, is filled with violent tendencies, firearm use, and even a death that he claims was accidental.

After being suspended as Robin, Todd goes on a mission to find his birth mother. He finds her in Ethiopia and he soon finds out that she is being blackmailed by the Joker into giving him medical supplies from the clinic she works at. His mother gives Todd up to the Joker and the mad man proceeds to beat Jason ferociously with a crowbar and then leaves him and his mother in a warehouse with a time bomb. The bomb explodes before Batman can save them and Jason Todd dies, leaving Bruce only able to hold his lifeless corpse. The bodies are buried in Gotham.

However, after Superboy Prime altered reality, Jason Todd is revived in his coffin six months after his death. He manages to claw his way out of the grave but collapses. He spends a year in a coma and then is taken in by Talia Al Ghul, who tries to help him cope with and cure his amnesia. She eventually places him in the Lazarus Pit which gives him his memory back. Soon, he returns to Gotham with only one goal: Kill Batman.

Real Name: Cassandra Cain
Alias: Batgirl
Appearance:
Herstory: Cassandra Cain was bred to become the ultimate bodyguard for Ra’s al Ghul. Her father, a member of the League of Assassins, searched out a woman who would have the perfect genetics to create that body guard. He found Sandra Wu-San, AKA Lady Shiva; a martial arts expert and skilled assassin. From early childhood, Cassandra was trained in the martial and killing arts. In addition, she was not taught to speak and instead that brain capacity was used to teach her how to read body language. This caused severe dyslexia, rendering her illiterate.

When she was eight years old, her father took her on her first hit. Upon killing the man, she realized that what she was doing was wrong and that she didn’t want to be apart of it. She then ran away. She lived, homeless, for the next 9 years until she came to Gotham and became one of Oracle’s agents. She successfully stopped her father from assassinating Commissioner Gordon and was awarded with the Batgirl costume and the mantle. She was taken in by Barbara as her ward and began a career as Batgirl.

Special Abilities: Obviously a dangerous and highly talented martial artist, Cassandra is able to keep up with her fellow crime fighters. She has a high tolerance for pain as well, and due to her upbringing, can 'read' people's body language but is not good at speaking.

Real Name: Barbara Gordon
Alias: Oracle
Appearance:
History: From the time she was a little girl, Barbara was fascinated with the crime-fighting scene, especially with Batman. The daughter of Roger and Thelma Gordon would play superhero with her best friend in the yard, relishing in the excitement and joy she got from it. At age 13, however, her parents were tragically killed in a car accident. After being adopted by her uncle in Gotham City, Babs’ obsession with Batman grew, and eventually led up to her becoming the first Batgirl. As committed as she was to such a role, she also paid heed to her academic achievements, which brought her to attend Gotham University before she even hit adulthood. After years of performing her duties as Batgirl, her career was cut short by an attack by the Joker. She was shot, paralyzing her and rendering her useless in a wheelchair. After spiraling in and out of depression, the woman finally used her intelligence for good, acting as a source for Batman and the rest of the family under the codename ‘Oracle’. She was engaged to Nightwing, who was the original Robin when she was Batgirl, but called it off due to a question of their readiness. He promised to wait on her, and she still holds him to such.

Special Abilities:

* Photographic Memory - Barbara can look at something for but a second and recall it later on. This is helpful in collecting intel quickly and efficiently.

* Martial Arts Master: “trained martial artist. Barbara is an above-average hand-to-hand combatant. Kung Fu master Richard Dragon helped Barbara to hone her martial prowess during a time when he too was using a wheelchair. Has mastered Stick Fighting, Dragon Style Kung Fu, and Boxing.”


Extra: Is currently debating her relationship with Nightwing, and whether or not to take him back up on his offer.


Real Name: Harvey Dent

Alias: Two Face

Appearance:

History: Harvey Dent was a messed up kid, for sure. He grew up in poverty, his father abusive in sexual and physical manners. The father would play a game with his son by flipping on coin, heads saying that he’d beat Harvey and tails saying that he’d let him off for that moment. This caused repressed mental ilness in Dent, like a ticking time bomb waiting to go off. Harvey grew up handsome and influential, becoming the youngest District Attorney in all of Gotham City and a political role model. His job, however, put him on the path to destruction. After destructing parts of a huge mob in the city, the mob boss hired men to kill Harvey. This failed, however, and as a final retaliation, the men throw an omnipotent acid in the DA’s face, causing the left side of it to become horribly disfigured. This set off a multiple personality disorder within him, one being the vigilante, Harvey Dent, and the other being the criminal mastermind, Two Face. Two Face is the mostly active part of him, and he leans to the number two in his crimes. He adopted his father’s tradition in his murders: heads you die, tails you live. He’s currently battling with both himself and the Batman family for power over Gotham City.

Special Abilities: Two Face has no remarkable abilities, besides from his duality and his knowledge of criminal law.

Extra: Harvey has an ex-wife and twin children, all of which he’s begotten for a life of crime.

Real Name: Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel

Alias: Harley Quinn

Brief History: Previously a first-year intern at Arkham Asylum, Dr. Harleen Quinzel was a young woman with great passion and determination who was hungry for fame and fortune. Using her skills in gymnastics to earn herself a scholarship into Gotham University, Harleen set her sights on the psychology department. Due to a love of fun, little studying was done and through seducing her professors, she passed with high grades and got her internship at Arkham. It can be assumed that the same methods were used with Jeremiah Arkham to grant her access to the highest level inmate in the place; the Joker.
Her youth and naivety pegged her as easily manipulated, and she soon fell in love with the inmate she was studying. After a few months, Harleen did a complete 180, and became Harley Quinn, ready to fight Gotham and it’s Dark Knight alongside her ‘puddin’.’ Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to protect her love from the Batman, and now he’s back in Arkham where she can’t reach him. This can only spell trouble for the side of Good, because there’s nothing in the world that can stop Harley when the Joker’s involved.

Special Abilities:
Immunity to most poisons and toxins thanks to the aid of best friend, Poison Ivy.
Talented Gymnast.
Trained in psychoanalysis.
High levels of agility and strength.

Extra: Harley has a quick temper, which is tested even more when people talk badly against the Joker. Every decision she makes has him in mind, so it can be hard to get her to agree to anything that doesn’t aid him in anyway.
She also has two pet hyenas, named Bud and Lou, who are very protective of her and accompany her everywhere now that the Joker isn’t around.

Real Name: Dr. Thomas "Tommy" Elliot

As Dr. Thomas Elliot

History: Dr. Thomas Elliot is a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne, and was also born into a wealthy family. The two boys would often play strategy games together, through which Elliot taught Bruce to think like his opponents in order to win. Unlike Wayne, Elliot hated his parents, despising both his drunk and abusive father and his frail mother. Instead of defending Thomas, she forced him to memorize Aristotle, as a way to deal in a subtle, passive way with his father. Driven by his desire for independence and wealth, he cut the brakes on his parents' car, causing a crash which killed his father. His mother was saved in an emergency operation by Dr. Thomas Wayne, which enraged young Elliot. During the next few years, Elliot tended to his mother and, while at first relishing the irony that Bruce had lost his parents, his anger grew when hearing about Bruce Wayne living a life of leisure and travel. Shortly before Bruce returned to Gotham to take Batman's mantle, Elliot befriended a young woman named Peyton Riley - a relationship of which his mother never approved. Elliot's mother herself unwittingly completed his transition into a true villain: when she fully recovered from her cancer, she disowned Tommy and cut him off from the Elliot fortune in retaliation for his continuing relationship with Peyton. Thomas killed her, while Peyton killed their lawyer and destroyed Mrs. Elliot's new will. As far as the rest of the world was concerned, his mother had died of a mere household accident, spurred by her weakened physical condition. Although he went on to Harvard and became a successful surgeon, Elliot continued to hold an irrational grudge towards his childhood friend. His medical career peaked, and has now returned to Gotham, ready to ruin Bruce, adopting the identity of Hush (after the lullaby his Mother once sang). Bruce got everything Tommy didn't, and that's what fuels him to try and destroy Bruce's life.

Special Abilities: Tommy is a skilled surgeon and Doctor, having received full training from Harvard. He can wield a scalpel without a thought, and it's a rare thing for one of his operations to go wrong, giving him the reputation as one of the best surgeons in the world. He is a capable neurosurgeon, which is his main profession, but can also perform plastic surgery, which he is so proficient at that he can perform it on himself. Tommy was raised in upper class society, so he has a fond appreciation of art and theatre.

Tommy is a skilled marksman, can duel wield pistols without too much trouble, and is capable of a near perfect shot without looking down the sights, having been trained by Deadshot. He's also an expert in hand-to-hand combat, having trained himself in his hatred for both Bruce Wayne and Batman, and is capable of athletic abilities such as jumping between rooftops. He is a skilled manipulator and strategist with a genius-level intellect. He is also in some ways a master of disguise, able to act like another person and even impersonate their voices.

Okay. Since people were annoying me with their talk of there being no plot for this RP, I've decided to post one. If you don't like it, deal with it. lol. The plot is as follows:

Commissioner Gordon has been stripped of his post and arrested for allegedly accepting bribes. A mysterious man name Herman Nichols has come from Metropolis to serve as Gotham’s new Police Commissioner. Nichols’ first act as Commissioner is to declare an all out war on The Batman and his Bat-clan. Suddenly, the Bat Family is being actively hunted and they must find a way to prove Gordon’s innocence to get Nichol’s out.

Meanwhile, upon his return to Gotham, Jason Todd has devised his own way of killing Batman. He causes a jail break at Arkham and leaves a message for the Villains to meet up with him. He’ll attempt to organize them and go after the bane of their collective existence: The Batman.

Real Name: Jonathan Crane
Alias: Scarecrow
Appearance:
Brief History(keep it basic): Born to a dead beat father and negligent mother, Jonathan was raised in large part by his great grandmother. To toughen the lanky boy up, she would lock him in an old church wearing a suit that had been treated with a chemical that induced hostility in crows, causing them to attack him. This gave him a fascination with the birds as well as with fear.

Crane committed his first murder at 18, as a way of revenge against a couple who had played a joke on him. Dressed as the Scarecrow, he terrified the two in their car, forcing them into an accident that killed one of them. Jonathan, as a result, became fascinated with scaring people, literally, to death.

After High school, Jonathan enrolled at Gotham University where he studied Psychology, focusing on fear. In order to get a job at the university after graduation, he killed his mentor, using the fear toxin he had created, and took his job. Later he is dismissed from the university (and kills those responsible) and moves to Arkham where he used the patients as subjects for his toxin.

Soon enough, Batman investigates the murders at the university and draws the line back to Crane. He is locked up after a fight with the Bat and this launched him into wanting revenge on the caped crusader. He also became one of the many villains who are sent instantly to Arkham upon capture.

Special Abilities:

Chemistry: Jonathan Crane is a proficient chemist and has used this skill to develop his infamous "fear toxin".

Intimidation: Using a variety of toxins that cause his victims to hallucinate that their phobias have come to life, the Scarecrow instills fear in all who see him

Violent Dancing: When forced to fight, Crane uses his own martial arts style he calls "violent dancing", which is based in part on the crane style of kung fu, and makes full use of his long arms and legs.

Psychology: Jonathan Crane is an expert in the field of psychology, specifically the study of anxiety disorders. He is a walking textbook on the study of fear, and can recite the name and description of nearly every known phobia. He often demonstrates his intellectual prowess by analyzing his fellow patients at Arkham Asylum.

Brief History:

Bullied as a youngster! Over-protective mother causes umbrella fetish! Birds were his only childhood friends! Turned to crime after his mother’s death, shunned by high society! A gentleman gangster of the underworld! HE IS THE PENGUIN !

Special Abilities:

Master criminal strategist- He uses his considerable intellect to gain wealth and power through less than legal means. Driven entirely by self-interest, the Penguin often relies on cunning, wit, and intimidation to exploit his surrounding for profit and advance his own schemes. He usually plans crimes, but does not often commit them himself.

An arsenal of special umbrellas- Modified umbrellas that usually contain weapons such as machine guns, sword tips, missiles, lasers, flame-throwers, and acid spraying devices. Usually whatever the current plot calls for.
