Once you’re in, it’s all too easy to get kicked out . . . lineups change faster than fashion trends, quirky personalities expire faster than cookies, and the good Lord only knows what kind of habits you’re going to pick up. But in the end, all that matters is nailing that next gig. So, come on. Grab your guitar. You’re on in five.

Bri and new SexyBitch Alicia here - welcome to The Scene. Land of broken guitar strings, dented drums, big hair, too much eyeliner, tight jeans, all that jazz... well, not jazz, but you get the drift. This RP will focus on the turbulent world of rising bands - their struggles, their triumphs, and what to do when your amp blows in the middle of the show.

Set in Cleveland, The Scene is a dramedy following the rise of young and upcoming musicians struggling to make a career from their blood, sweat, tears, and a dinged-up van.

As well as musicians, we could also use other characters - the band managers, for example, roadies, or friends of the musicians. And a little rivalry never hurt anyone - as more people join, new characters can be added to the fray. There’ll always be room in this RP for more - you just need to organize a way to make your grand entrance.

You’ll notice there’s no backstory in the bio skeleton - that’s because we want that kind of information to come out IC. The rest of us will find out more about your character as the RP progresses. If there’s information other writers need to know, perhaps for subplots or shared histories, feel free to share them with each other over PMs.

Name: Gertrude Wayne

Age: 27

Appearance:
Gertrude is petite, at about 5’3” and 115 pounds, but she certainly doesn’t escape notice. Her curly, dark reddish-brown hair is cropped to just below her chin, and it’s usually a mess. She has strong features, with an oval face, sharp cheekbones, and a straight, slender nose. These are accentuated by the hot mess of makeup she slathers herself in - heavy, dark lipstick, rouge, and heaps of dramatic eyeshadow and mascara to bring out her pale green eyes. A tattoo reading “After You Pay Me” runs from hip-to-hip below her stomach, along with a line of little X’s tattooed beneath her left breast.
As for apparel, Gertie has an inborn talent for appearing simultaneously classy and trashy. With as much of a penchant for trotting about in her brassiere as for elegantly cut menswear, she could look like an elegant entertainer from the waist down and a prostitute from the waist up, or vice-versa. She likes hats, gloves, spats, accessories . . . the one thing she doesn’t seem to like is wearing a shirt.

Personality: Gertie tries her best to act cool, detached, and apathetic, but she typically gets so excited about thing that in the end she can’t keep up the front. Quirky, spastic, and a little bit trashy, Gertrude tends to think of life as a great big carnival - as long as you’re there, you may as well live it up, even if your behavior lands you in the sideshow. She doesn’t really seem to understand the concept of action-consequence, so she just takes a lot of rash actions and ignores the many consequences that follow. Music is just another of her ways of giving a not-so-subtle “fuck you” to the world - she’s found that you can say things in a song that you often can’t say to someone’s face. All things considered, though, she’d probably say whatever it is to your face anyway.
She may seem careless, but Gertrude has plenty of dark fears crawling under her skin. Though she may be in her prime, she feels that the scene is a young woman's game, and as her 30th birthday approaches, she's been scrambling for a record deal. She's touchy about her age, and she tends to lie about it on a regular basis.

Music genre of choice: Caberet. She writes original songs and does covers.

Interview:

How did you first become interested in music?
At my grandmother's house, the only thing we weren't allowed to touch was the piano. Naturally, I spent my whole childhood trying to find ways to play it. I guess the obsession never faded.
What was your first performance experience?
You mean besides school recitals? My first band was called Kafka's Harlots . . . yeah, I know. I know. But we played some really dumb gigs, a local bar every now and then, basement parties. Thought we were hot shit. I guess looking back on that lets me see how much I've improved.
Why caberet? There must have been a lot of musical influences you could have drawn on.
I guess I've always been attracted to the burlesque theatre. There was one doen the street from my grandmother's house, and sometimes I'd see the singers and dancers standing outside in their costumes. All the dirty glamour of it, the makeup, the loudness - and, besides, you only need to be able to play the piano.
So if caberet is your thing, you must be able to dance, as well.
No.
Well, alright, but wouldn't you say your performances are as much about patter and style as the music itself?
It'll always be about the music first. But, yes, people go to a caberet to be entertained, not just for music. You've got to play the crowd a little. Besides, you'd be surprised what you can get away with onstage.
Such as . . . ?
It's just a whole different world. It's subversive. Social boundaries blur. The lines we've become so used to living with no longer exist when you're performing . . .

What club are you currently playing at?
Eh, well, at the moment I'm sort of . . . self-employed. Freelance, if you will.
Right . . . well, when's your next performance?
Uh. That's a little . . . up in the air right now. I'm on a bit of a haitus. My music style has a fairly selective audience, and -

Name: Zachary “Zach” Hamilton
Age: 22
Appearance:
Zach is a modest height of 5’9 and he is a stick of a man of a man as he is very slender in isn’t made of much muscle. His skin is a darker on the brown scale and he keeps his curly black hair cut close to his head and glasses over his dark eyes. In addition to the one in the picture, he has a tattoo on his left wrist that is a small heart.

Zach dresses pretty casually: Graphic T-shirts, worn, sometimes torn up, jeans and sneakers. He changes his glasses just about each day, as he has right around a hundred pairs. He occasionally wears necklaces but that isn’t a normal occurrence.

Personality: Is a laid back, fun loving kind of guy. He’s been known to have pulled a prank or ten in his day and told more than a few naughty jokes. He doesn’t like to argue with people, hates confrontation, and is usually respected by others for his calm and respectful demeanor. Whenever a problem arises, he’s more likely to try to push it off on someone else than try to solve it himself. . Music is his safe place; somewhere he can lose himself in and just create. He’s always been a creative soul, always sketching when he isn’t writing music. His only outlet for aggression is his instrument, and he’s been known to really pound a kit, but other than that he keeps calm. His voice, both speaking and singing, is quiet and demur. He’s always a good listener and is very passionate to his friends. He wants to be famous, but he isn’t ruthless like a lot of other people. He just wants his music out there to be enjoyed, the ultimate musician’s musician.
Instrument: Just about any type of drum you can think of and vocals.
Music genre of choice:
A smooth, acoustic feel is what he goes for. Laid back, like him, but with tender and beautiful lyrics and a calm voice.

Name: Britt Thriceman
Age: 18
Appearance:
Britt is of average height, maybe a little short, at 5’65”. She’s pretty thin, but tends to stay away from scales since they cause so much negative feelings for other people. She’s got white blonde hair with dark brown underneath. Her skin is pale, but has enough color to work with her hair. She has piercing light blue eyes that are emphasized by her overkill use of eyeliner and mascara. Her ears are triple pierced, with one ear’s cartilage pierced. Her right wrist is always decorated in wristbands, woven and rubber. Her left wrist has a robot tattoo that she rubs whenever she’s nervous or excited. She’ll be seen most often wearing her favorite bleached and torn skinny jeans, paired with a V-neck, loose tank top, or off-the-shoulder shirt. She wears big, clunky, soft skater tennis shoes constantly.


Personality: Britt could talk your ear off if she wanted to. She’s bursting with things to say, but about 77.6% of it doesn’t come out. Mostly because she's distracted so easily. What does come out, though, tends to be totally random. She’s usually five steps- well, not really ahead- away from where everyone else is in the conversation. She may say something that would’ve made sense 5 minutes ago or something that will make sense 5 minutes from now. Britt may be a bit of a ditz, but she’s a sweetheart. If you ask her, “Would you care for a cup of coffee?” She’d take that crappy cup of coffee home and nurse it back to health. She doesn’t get mad. Ever. You could hurl the most obscene insults her way, and she’d just giggle. She isn’t exactly “innocent” but you won’t see her crawling into bed with anyone anytime soon. Music is something she’s always been connected with. Music is what puts a bounce in her step, a glimmer in her eye, and just generates an aura of pure happiness around her. She takes pride in her bass work, liking to keep her music mellow, but still energized and fun; just like her.

So, Britt, do you think bassists are underrated?
Noooo! In fact, I feel everybody is underrated and should be apprecated even more than they already are!
Alrighty, then. Do you have any songs that are particulatly fun to play?
Gee, I dunno. They're all so much fun, I'd hate to pick one and make all the other songs feel bad.

What do you do for fun on tour?
I love talking to people and making friends. Sometimes I like just sitting outside and watching the wildlife, too. The Earth is just so pretty, ya know? Oh, and at night, I like to dance a lot. Well, I just like to dance in general, you know? I've danced since I was little, but I snapped my ankle basically in half and- *inhales deeply* Sorry, what was I talking about?
Uh, is it true you were in a band with the now-famous Ella Monet?
Yeah! That band was a lot of fun, she's such a kind person.
She's just been arrested for cocaine possession and assaulting a fan.

Name: Fenton Joshua Bledsoe.
Age: 24.
Instrument: Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals.
Music Genre: Grunge and Indie Rock.
Appearance: Based on Josh Beech - Tall and lanky, Fenton stands just over six foot and is somewhere between one hundred and fifty to two hundred pounds. Because he’s pretty tall, his height usually takes away from how much he weighs in a counterbalancing act. He has a very skinny frame with only a smidgen of muscle in various places. He doesn’t plan on bulking up and prefers to be slender; taking on the lie that he has a high metabolism and isn’t able to gain weight as quickly as others. Moving on to his face, which is quite long and angular with a strong jaw and chin, he has green eyes with very prominent lids; usually giving off the look that he doesn’t get any sleep [the truth in more than one way]. His nose seems to have as little shape to it as possible and his small mouth has thinly shaped lips. Probably the most distinctive features aren’t even naturally his at all, being his nose ring and gages in his left and right ears and his various numbers of tattoos on his skin. Hair wise, his is a darker brown in shade and is longer in the middle and shorter at the sides. It grows rather frequently though, so he’s constantly going through different styles to what suits him best. As for his clothing, he usually doesn’t have much of a style. He just goes with whatever the fuck he can find, normally opting to not wear shirts.
Personality: The epitome of what it truly means to be a bad boy, Fen has been an annoying prick for his entire life. He’s always wanted to rebel against what other’s have told him and because of his strong catholic upbringing, there was always a side of him that wanted to go against the grain of what his parent’s had taught him. Most of society has deemed him as reckless, and while this isn’t something he will refute seeing as he definitely is most of the time, he has his moments where he respects someone highly enough not to be ungracious towards them. Ten out of ten times though, Fenton’s the most impudent, arrogant, and offensive jackass you’ll be sure to meet. He says what he feels and means what he says, which to some aren’t able to take immediately upon first meeting him. He means well, he just doesn’t show it.

1) How did you get one of your scars? "Oh this? My ex-girlfriend burnt me with an iron a couple of months back 'cause I told her ass to jump in a flaming pile of shit. Probably should'ah waited 'til she was done pressing my shirt though. I'm sure that cunt'll get what's comin' to her eventually; I can only wait for the day.."
2) How did you celebrate your last birthday? "Got fucked up in Cancun. I couldn't feel my face after the fourth hour, haha."
3) How are you feeling at this moment? "Like I wanna drive a plane through the twin towers! Don't call in to work today, 'cause Fen's about to take that shit down"
4) How did you do in high school? "The fuck kinda question is this? School's overrated."
5) How did you get that shirt you’re wearing? "Stole it off some douche at Coachella last year. He fuckin' let me too, bastard. When I see something I like, I take it; The world's mine."
6) What is the most important thing in your life? "That a trick question or something. Most important thing in my life is my life."
7) What would you rather be doing now? "Anything other than answering these dumbass questions."
8) What did you last cry over? "No comment."
9) What always makes you feel better when you’re upset? "Smoking.. it relieves the pain."
10) What are you worried about? "I never worry- That's for pussies."
11) If you could have one superpower, what would it be? "X-ray fuckin' vision! How else would I be able to see into girl's locker rooms? That or invisibility. *smirks*"
12) Does the future scare you? "Why would it? I'm the best fuckin' rockstar there's ever been. Nobody knows it yet, but they will in due time.. trust me, they will."

[Wendy Ann Beckett-Jolina]

Name: Raina Dubois
Age:23
Appearance:
Raina is pixie-like in appearance, at a measely height of 5'0" and weighing 110 lbs. With her stature, the woman is often confused for being younger than she is. Thin as a rail, she keeps weight off even though she eats like a maniac, which she writes off as her 'damn operative metabolism'. Her most striking feature is the stark paleness of her skin, which makes the darkness of her other features stand out. Even so, her friends tease her about looking like a corpse that ran out of the morgue, and that the morticians would be coming at any second. Her hair is kept short, so that she doesn't have to bother dealing with it, and is known to change from blue to red to hot pink to the entire rainbow in short bouts of time. Her eyes are a reddish-brown tinge, and are shrouded by dark makeup to keep up her intensity. The line of her nose is straight, her lips thin and decorated with snake bites. Her body is covered in tattoos, all unique and important in some fashion, and her clothing choices are simple as to accentuate them. A normal outfit for her consists of an electric blue bra, tank top, distressed, acid washed skinny jeans, and a pair of high tops.


Personality: Raina is an independent woman. Always has been and always will be. She doesn't like to depend on others to get a job done, especially not a guy. Womens Rights and Feminism are important ideas to her, and she's been known to go out of her way to demonstrate those rights. Even so, she interacts well with guys as her equals, and isn't really one to go all gaga over a guy. If anything, she might have an occasional one night stand with a guy for kicks, not anything too serious. She's well grounded, and is known to get in arguments when she gets too fed up with somebody. Her sarcastic, dry attitude can turn some people off from her, and honestly, she couldn't give a shit if you don't like her. She's there for her passion, music, and no more than that.

Music genre of choice: Alternative music with extreme vocals and hard-hitting lyrics that really makes people think is what Raina goes for, and will never deviate from such.

"Now THERE'S a question that at least kinda makes sense. Honestly, I got no answer to that one. I just kinda let the music take me where it wants to, I suppose."

"Some boneheaded drummer from another band. He might be the biggest dumbass I've ever met, but he sure came ready."
5) Who are your role models?
"Oh, people like Pat Benatar, Fiona Apple... Some really rockin' ladies, I tell ya'!"
6) What is your biggest fear?
"*snort* Who said I was afraid of anything? I take life head on; not enough time to fear things."
7) Do you get along better with the girls in the band?
"Oh hell no. The girls piss me off too much; the guys are way cooler. Speaking of pissing me off... *pointed look*"
8) Does your family approve of your path as a band singer?
"Hell no. Do I care? Not at all."

"Probably 'Love is a Battlefield' by good ol' Pat Benatar. They don't make ladies like her no more."
